I've never actually tried that, but I've heard of others who do. I usually don't have an issue with the Prismacolor soft core pencils, more so with charcoal or graphite. I haven't tried the Prismacolor turquoise drawing pencils either...

As you work, do you lay a piece of paper under your hand to prevent smearing?

I love your work! You seem to have perfected this medium. What do you do to get such clean, thin highlights in the hair? I recently attempted a black and white portrait and I couldn't keep the highlights in the hair light enough to really pop out... They kept getting darkened by the surrounding dark areas.
